Flamingos’ captain Alvine Dah-Zossu says the 3-1 victory over Galatasaray in a recent friendly is a morale booster for the team ahead of the 2022 U-17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The Flamingos are in Turkey for a 10-day camping programme to tidy up preparations for the biggest U-17 women’s football tournament.

“The atmosphere in Turkey has been very nice and the training has been very great,” Dah-Zossu said.

Speaking further on their friendly match with Galatasaray girls how ready Flamingos are for the World Cup, Dah Zossu said:

“Galatasaray girls are a very good side with good teamwork and know how to keep the ball, but we were a better side and that was why we were able to win the game.

“ I will score us nine, so that when we get to the World Cup, we will make it 10.”

Not undermining the strength of their opponents – Germany, Chile and New Zealand – in Group B, Dah-Zossu is confident of Flamingos qualifying for the next round.

“Yes, we have watched a lot of our opponents’ games, Germany to be precise, and we play them in our first match. We watched a lot of their games and studied them a lot. The coaches have given us some instructions and we have been working on how to outplay them,” she told NFF.com.

Bankole Olowookere’s side play Fenerbahce next in another friendly later this week.

The U-17 Women’s World Cup holds in India from Oct 11 to 30.
