David Olagbaju, a cleric has expressed worry that many Christians celebrate Christmas without knowing the essence and Jesus Christ.
Olagbaju, who is the Provost of The Cathedral of St. James the great Oke Bola, Ibadan said this while speaking at the order of funeral service of late Emmanuel Olaniyi Oladeji on Friday.
Our correspondent reports that officiating ministers at the service included Most Reverends J. O. Akinfenwa, Titus Olayinka, T.O.B. Fajemirokun and M. Okeremi; Bishops of Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Ijebu Jesha and Ife East dioceses.
Olagbaju, while addressing the congregation, regretted that many people are celebrating Christmas but do not understand its essence.
He added that many people do not have a good relationship with Jesus, who they were celebrating at Christmas.
The cleric explained that the essence of Christmas is for Christians to be closer to God and not for dining and wining.
He enjoined Christians who do not have a good relationship with God to change for the better.
Olagbaju said, “Death is waiting for us. This is why I am saying that we should change for the better.
“This man did his very best to make life better for everyone.
“Christmas. Many people are celebrating Christmas without knowing Jesus Christ. Many people are celebrating Christmas without knowing the essence.
“Some people are celebrating Christmas for fun sake. Some celebrate it because of wining and dining purposes.
“God made Christmas so that people can be closer to God. So that we can be true children of God. What is your relationship with Jesus?
“Are you ready to meet Jesus? Let us do good so that we can meet Jesus”.
