Police apprehend 19 suspects in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended about 19 suspects for various criminal offences, including homicide, kidnapping and armed robbery.

SP Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson of the police in the State, in a statement on Friday, explained that on August 29, 2021, men of the command arrested Idi Abdullahi, Rabiu Sulaiman, Aliyu Malam alias Majo and Hassan Bako who allegedly shot one Jibrin Aliyu dead in his house.

He further explained that they (suspects) also stormed the house of one Ibrahim Dai and kidnapped his son, one Idi Jibrin, to an unknown destination where they demanded N1.5m as ransom.

The statement noted that on September 4, 2021, about 3am, one Nasir Gaddafi, Abdulrahman Mahmood and Kabiru Saleh were apprehended for allegedly robbing one Alhaji Dan’asabe Bayara at gunpoint in his house where they reportedly shot one 50-year-old Danjuma Umar to death.

The statement explained, “They robbed him (Bayara) of his valuables, Kidnapped his son to an unknown destination, demanded and collected N800,000 as ransom.”

The PPRO said that a 27-year-old man, Enoch Yohanna, was arrested for alleged murder of his girlfriend with whom he had two children.

The statement said that the lady was reportedly found in a pool of blood at Sabon Kaura, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis, and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital where she was confirmed dead.

He added that on October 7, 2021, about 4.45am, a joint patrol team in collaboration with the peace and security committee while on visibility patrol, sighted a young lady lying in a pool of blood with wounds on her head and blood gushing from her mouth at Sabon Kaura.

The statement explained that the team evacuated the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi, where a medical doctor certified her dead.

The statement added, “During the course of investigation, one Hajara Amos of Bayara village was identified as the deceased’s mother and also identified the deceased as Ruth Amos (28) of the same address. Consequently, investigation commenced in earnest where one Enoch Yohanna of Gwallameji Doka was arrested.”

The statement further said that upon interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to have committed the crime, saying that investigation further revealed that Enoch Yohanna and the deceased were in a romantic relationship and blessed with two children.

It was further revealed that on the date of the incident, Enoch sighted the deceased coming out of a compound and out of jealousy, he challenged her and it led to an argument between them, adding that in the process, he pushed her, she fell and hit her head on the ground.

The PPRO explained that a team of policemen in collaboration with a vigilance group, arrested one Abdulhamid Isah of Kaura Kafai Toro Local Government Area of the State for allegedly conspiring with others now at large to kidnap the son of Sule Ori and collect N2m ransom.

He said the suspect confessed to the crime in the course of investigation.
