Former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor, has snubbed Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, and named Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah as the greatest African player to have played in the Premier League.
Agbonlahor believes Salah is ahead of Drogba as the best African player in Premier League history.
Salah has been in brilliant form for Liverpool so far this season, scoring nine goals in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The 29-year-old equaled Drogba’s 104 goals in the Premier League after scoring in his side’s 5-0 win over Watford on Saturday.
Salah led Liverpool to win the Premier League title last two seasons and a Champions League triumph, while Drogba scored 104 league goals in his two spells at Chelsea and won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League.
“I think the top two is Mo Salah – he has been outstanding in the Premier League – his goals, his performances,” he told talkSPORT.
“And then Drogba, he would probably be second. Yaya Toure was amazing, but I think Drogba, given his legendary status and what he did for Chelsea, would be in the top two.
“I think you have got to look at his goal record for all the games he has played, Salah, is better than Drogba.
“Everything goes through Salah, if you look at Liverpool now and you took Salah out of their team, I don’t think they would finish in the top four, that is how much of a difference he makes to their side.
“When he does not play I don’t think Liverpool are the same side.
“Whereas Drogba, he still had a lot of goals coming from Lampard and other players in the team.
“If you look at Drogba’s goal record, it is nowhere near what Salah’s is – and he is playing as a winger, not a striker!
“So, I think Salah is number one for me.”
