Police warn vigilance group members against unlawful acts in Kano


The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Sama’ila Shu’aibu-Dikko, has advised vigilance group members against unlawful acts for better performance of their official assignments.

Shu’aibu-Dikko gave the advice in Kano when the State Commander, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Malam Shehu Rabiu, visited him said that the group should be seen working for the interest of the society.

He noted that there is a need for vigilance groups in the state to avoid taking the laws into their hands by promptly handing suspects over to the police.

He explained that the security agencies are very much aware of their activities towards promoting security in the state for its overall development.

The Commissioner of Police said, “I urge you to keep up the good work in support of humanity and society.”

He said that efforts of vigilance groups would yield better results if they collaborated with the law enforcement agencies towards ensuring a crime-free society.

He advised the vigilance group members not to detain suspects, hand them over to the police, and not videotape suspects to ensure proper investigation.

The VGN Commander, Shehu Rabiu, had explained that the visit was to strengthen synergy with the police to ensure a more effective fight against crime in the state.

He said that they have come to also seek the continued support and cooperation of the police, adding they need the guidance of the Police to be able to succeed.

The commander expressed the determination of the group to enhance security through hard work and effective synergy with security agencies to be able to achieve their objectives of ensuring sanity in the state.
